김진영 대표는 10월 10일(목) 더인벤션랩 글로벌 액셀러레이팅 프로그램 “RISING X – 호치민 데모데이”에서 아시아 금융, 투자, 벤처 등 글로벌 미디어 “Dealstreetasia”와 인터뷰를 진행했다. Dealstreetasia는 아시아 전역의 투자, 인수합병, 사모, 벤처캐피털, 투자은행, 그리고 스타트업에 대해 보도한다.
김진영 대표는 내년부터 스타트업 초기 투자를 위해 베트남 시장에 발을 들여놓았다고 밝혔다. 베트남에 투자 기회를 물색하고 있으며, “500만 달러의 베트남 펀드를 운영하고 있으며, 티켓(기업당 투자 금액) 크기는 약 20만 달러에서 30만 달러”라고 말했다.
또한 한국 정부가 최근 엑샐러레이터도 벤처자금을 조성할 수 있는 ‘벤처투자촉진법’을 진행한다며, 즉 엑샐러레이터의 VC펀드 역할로 나아가는 환경이 조성된다고 말했다.

Invention Lab, one of the leading startup accelerators in South Korea, is the latest to set foot in the Vietnamese market looking to clinch early-stage investments from next year, according to a top executive of the firm. “I am looking for investment opportunities in Vietnam from next year. We are running our own $5 million Vietnam fund and the ticket size is approximately $200,000 to $300,000,” David Kim, founder and CEO at Invention Lab told DealStreetAsia. The firm will be “focusing on seed investment rounds as an accelerator.” Invention Lab is not the only one betting big on the southeast Asian market.

Even as the role of venture capitalists and accelerators is different, Kim said the two categories of risk capital investors also share a lot in common. He said the Korean government recently announced its intention to pave the way for a Venture Investment Promotion Act wherein accelerators will also be able to create venture funds. In other words, it will create a situation where accelerators will be positioned as VC funds.
